Gymnastics Foundations Program
The Gymnastics Foundations Program is comprised of 3 separate course components (Foundations Introduction, Foundations Theory online & Foundations Sports Specific) for new coaches looking to begin their National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) training. Coaches must register for an NCCP number in The Locker by creating a profile before registering in their first NCCP course (Foundations Introduction or Foundations Theory Online).
Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory can be taken in either order. They must be complete prior to attending the Foundations Sports Specific modules.
Foundations course registration will close 5 business days prior to the start of the course, at which time participants will receive an information email to prepare for the course. Notification of withdrawal or transfer from the course must be received no later than 5 business days prior to the start of the course. Coaches will receive an email with course preparation instructions approximately 5 business days prior to the course.
Failure to send notification with a minimum 5 business days prior to the course will result in forfeit of the full course registration fee.
Late registrations/walk-in registrations will not be accepted.
Coaches must attend the full course to receive course credit.
Coaches must be a minimum 15 years of age to register for any Foundations course.
Coaches must have a valid GO Membership (coach or CIT) in the same season the course takes place.
Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory must both be completed before a coach may attend any Foundations Sports Specific course. The Foundations Introduction and Theory courses may be taken in any order, but coaches may register for and attend both courses prior to any Foundations Sports Specific course. There is no required wait time between Foundations courses.
The Foundations training program takes a "hands off" approach to coaching. Coaches taking this training will learn the importance of drills and circuits to build strength, confidence and skill. They should be readily available to safety spot, should the athlete require assistance. Coaches are encouraged to explore different ways to coach, that do not rely on spotting. An athlete should never perform a skill that they are not physically and mentally prepared to do.
A valid [unique] personal email should be recorded during the registration process in order to receive all future email communications from Gymnastics Ontario and gain access to the Learning Management System (LMS), should this apply.
