Gymnastics Foundations Program
The Gymnastics Foundations Program is comprised of 3 separate course components (Foundations Introduction, Foundations Theory eLearning modules (x3) & Foundations Sports Specific) for new coaches looking to begin their National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) training. Coaches must register for an NCCP number in The Locker by creating a profile before taking their first NCCP course (Foundations Introduction or Foundations Theory eLearning modules).
The Foundations training program takes a “hands-off” approach to coaching. Coaches will learn how to use drills, progressions, and circuits to develop athlete strength, confidence, and skill while reducing reliance on physical spotting. Coaches should remain readily available to safety spot when an athlete requires assistance and are encouraged to explore coaching strategies that promote safe, progressive, and independent skill development. An athlete should never perform a skill they are not physically or mentally prepared to attempt.
Coaches must be a minimum 14 years of age to complete the Foundations Theory eLearning modules. Coaches must be a minimum 15 years of age to register for any Foundations courses offered by Gymnastics Ontario.
Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory can be taken in either order as long as the coach meets the minimum age requirement. They must be complete both Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory training prior to attending the Foundations Sports Specific modules.
Attendance for the entire duration of the course is mandatory to receive course credit. No make-up options are available if part or all of the course is missed. Coaches must plan to attend entire course as scheduled.
Foundations course registration will close 5 business days prior to the start of the course, at which time participants will receive an information email to prepare for the course. Notification of withdrawal or transfer from the course must be received no later than 5 business days prior to the start of the course.
Coaches will receive an email with course preparation instructions approximately 5 business days prior to the course start date. Any withdrawal or transfer request must be received a minimum of 5 business days prior to the course start date.
Requests received after this deadline will result in forfeiture of the full course registration fee.
Late registrations/walk-in registrations will not be accepted under any circumstance.
Coaches must hold a valid Gymnastics Ontario Membership (Coach or CIT) for the same membership season in which the course takes place.
Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory components must both be completed before a coach may attend any Foundations Sport Specific course. Foundations Introduction and Foundations Theory eLearning modules may be completed in any order. There is no required waiting period between Foundations courses.
